New Trend In Health Insurance|Low-Cost Concierge Medicine [Soundcloud Audio]

An interview with a Kansas libertarian physician that charges $50 per month for unlimited primary care rendered in his office.  Worth a listen.  Though the interview is more than a year old, there are not enough details presented  to assume that what he is doing is legal in Kansas, or if he still has the same business model. Or if regulators cracked down on him for operating a quasi-HMO for $50 a month  It worked for him at the time of the interview. I particularly liked his explanation of how it works when paired with high-deductible insurance plans.

  1. Interesting perspective from. PCP struggling to meet ends. I particularly know of a physician in a rural area in Texas that operates a similar -pay per visit, don’t worry about your insurance- type of care. It is working for him as he is caring the overflow of patients that othe PCPs in the area do not want to treat. I’m interested to know your opinion regarding legal issues or government laws, the doctors are breaking. What I liked the most about the audio was his anoligy about auto mobile insurance, we have it for emergency events. My personal belief about healthcare in this country is vast ignorance of citizens on how it works, and the responsibility we have in abusing those services.

As always, I enjoy your opinions and what you share about healthcare.

    Have a great day, Maria!

    1. Sergio,
Many doctors are too cavalier about the laws relating to selling “unlimited” primary care by a monthly or annual contract, without a certificate of authority to operate a regulated health plan such as an HMO. Too many times, they son’t believe they are doing anything nefarious, but they are treading on top of laws they haven’t fully researched to ascertain compliance or non compliance. There is a way to do it properly, but most don’t learn how or what it takes to simply fine tune the model of their choosing to be legal.
