In 2011, Mercury Advisory Group was engaged to consult with over 1400 healthcare providers to assist them with managed care contract negotiations and renegotiation strategic planning. Many of these providers were ambulatory surgery centers that were freestanding endoscopy centers, while others were hospital outpatient department extensions. Still others were integrated health delivery systems and multispecialty group practices. The data in the infographic above  is a regional analysis of net revenue to gross charge ratios.

In addition, in 2013, we reviewed many physician employment agreements for clients.  Here are the gastroenterology figures we compiled.

  • Median salary: $427,000 (decrease from 2012)
  • Median gross charges: $1,900,000
  • Mean salary for men: $346,000
  • Mean salary for women: $305,000
  • Highest-paying region: Northwest ($496,000)
  • Lowest-paying region: Mid-Atlantic ($308,000)
  • Hospital-employed salary: $262,000 (but significantly better benefits)
  • Multispecialty group practice salary: $417,500
  • Highest offered base salary (not including bonuses): $595,000
  • Lowest offered base salary (not including bonuses): $287,000
